Don’t fret: Coverage of the Florida Panthers is back!

SUNRISE, Fla. — Hello everyone, it is your old pal George.

For those of you who don’t know me, I am a hockey writer based in South Florida who has covered the Florida Panthers (for the most part) since 2004.

I was the beat writer for the Miami Herald from 2004-17, left to cover the Blue Jackets for the Columbus Dispatch for a season and came back home to report on all the comings-and-goings of the Panthers once again for the Athletic in 2018.

My latest gig ended on Friday when I was one of 46 who was laid off. I was not expecting that.

Life, however, moves on.

Covered up and practicing social distancing in Sunrise, Florida.

So, too, will my coverage of the Panthers in some way, shape or form.

I still have a lot of stories to tell, news to share and (hopefully) some scoops to dish out and they will come right here on my — and, I hope your — new home of all things Florida Panthers: The Panthers Press Box.

Future plans include a podcast and perhaps some video. Right now, I plan on posting plenty of news surrounding this team as they try and get back on the ice this summer.

The Panthers may just eventually play the Islanders in a best-of-5 series in their quest for the Stanley Cup. You are not going to miss that and neither am I.

Thanks for stopping by! Hope to see you around these parts frequently.

As always, thanks for the support.

So sorry about what happened with the Athletic. As one who has been reading you and following you from the beginning so happy to see you are sticking around, you are the only consistent, reliable source of information for Panthers fans. Wishing you the very best!

George, I am thrilled you will continue to cover the Panthers, I subscribed to the Athletic the day the hired you and cancelled the day they let you go. I have always enjoyed your knowledge and willingness to ask the tough questions.
